The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any significant awards ceremony nears, one notices an outcry for the addition fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories actually cover many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category in 2014
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary game development, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
